Our customer, a UK Agricultural Machinery Manufacturer, addressed their production process changes, reduced maintenance costs, and improved safety with a Coldene Heavy Duty Castor Solution.
A Coldene Heavy Duty Castor Solution, a unique and innovative product, was the key to this success. The application featured custom-built trolleys fitted with sprung swivel castors to transport large and heavy vehicle components around its factory. These castors, with their unique features, are exposed to various harsh indoor and outdoor environments and can be damaged by potholes, debris, and rough surfaces while in use, leading to the need for frequent downtime and costly replacements.

Objectives
A solution was required that could handle the increased loads and faster pace of their production line, as well as the poor road conditions in the usage area. They also wanted something that was more cost-effective and easier to maintain. Knowing Coldene’s reputation for providing heavy-duty solutions, they approached us in search of a high-quality, heavy-duty solution that would be more durable, long-lasting, and reduce costs by eliminating downtime caused by castor failure.
Solution
We worked closely with the customer to gain a thorough understanding of their environment and identified areas where we could improve upon the existing solution. We proposed our unique ultra-wide polyurethane outdoor tyre, which is bonded to a lightweight yet robust aluminium wheel. This wheel is mounted on an ultraheavy- duty, high-strength steel swivel assembly that features a sprung axle arrangement. The solution was designed to fit directly to the existing trolley mounting points for ease of transition.
Benefits
The large polyurethane wheels, featuring lightweight aluminium cores, are specifically designed to withstand harsh, uneven and debris-filled environments. They offer excellent strength and durability while remaining flexible enough to provide a smooth ride across various surfaces. The tread pattern efficiently expels water and debris, ensuring optimal performance. The sprung axle significantly reduces vibration and noise, resulting in quieter and safer transportation of heavy components over rough and uneven terrain. The assemblies are made from high-strength steel and welded by BSI/ISO-coded welders, ensuring maximum strength, durability, and longevity. This means that the castors require less frequent replacements, reducing downtime and improving efficiency.
