A Coldene Heavy-Duty Castor Solution reduced downtime and costs and improved safety for a UK heavy Plant Manufacturer.
A heavy plant manufacturer based in the UK uses custom-built trolleys fitted with swivel castors to transport large and heavy vehicle components around its factory. These castors are exposed to various harsh indoor and outdoor environments and can be damaged due to collisions or abrasions during use, leading to frequent downtime and costly replacements.

Objectives
The company’s existing solution was unreliable and noisy, and it would fail roughly every three months. The costs associated with the replacement and repair time, along with the delays in manufacturing, were significant. Additionally, the noise produced by the castors was attracting noise pollution fines from the local authority. As they knew about Coldene’s reputation for providing heavy-duty solutions, they approached us, hoping to find a high-quality heavy-duty solution that would last longer, reduce noise and costs, and eliminate the downtime related to castor failure.
Solution
The castors needed to be strong enough to withstand a busy factory environment while working indoors and outdoors in all weathers. We recommended our unique Polyurethane indoor/outdoor wheels teamed with an ultra-heavy-duty, high-strength steel swivel assembly featuring a sprung axle arrangement.
Benefits
The large polyurethane wheels are designed to be used indoors and outdoors, providing strength and durability while remaining flexible enough to offer a smooth ride over different surfaces. The sprung axle enhances ride quality and significantly reduces noise, making it possible to move heavy components safely, quietly and quickly over rough and uneven terrain. By utilising high-strength steel welded by BSI/ISO-coded welders, we give the strength and resilience of the wheel to ensure a longer life, reducing the frequency of replacements needed and significantly reducing downtime.
